At last, at last... (!) At the New Year reception on the sixth day of 2012 the mayor of Emmen Cees Bijl was privileged to announce on behalf of the jury and the local public of Emmen that the ninth ‘hero(es) of the year' is ... the group of friends called ‘Zalavolbate'! ( ). Wow! That's a stroke of luck, not only for these nine members of the group, but specially for editor Paul Abrahams of the newspaper ‘De Zuidoosthoeker' and the founder of the price. Zalavolbate were fed up with being ranked at the second place - three times in a row - and had been nominated for the fourth time (...) Fortunately they won the well-deserved title ‘De Emmenaar van het jaar'. Paul drew a breath of relief and set the painter to work.
